QUILTING THE PROJECT 1. Remove the pinned papers with the column numbers on them and discard. 2. Smooth out and pin the corners and raw edges down with straight pins or quilters' safety pins. 3. Thread the machine with thread that contrasts with the top and load the bobbin with thread to match the backing. Start with a full bobbin. 4. Begin in a corner by first backstitching and then machine quilting a straight line across each square from corner to corner of each square on the diagonal. 5. Stitch to ¼″ of raw edges on outside squares.
Twin lime green fabrics were used in the model. 5. Continue with the next group of eight squares. Medium blue dots were used in the model. 6. Finish with the four corners. 7. Place binding/backing fabric near edge of the design to see how it interacts with the colors around the perimeter. If you like the arrangement, you are finished creating your design. If not, reposition squares as desired until you are pleased with the look. 8. To complete the quilt, continue with the Sew, Quilt and Bind steps.
Arrange as desired to audition different effects. 2. Line up the 45-degree diagonal line of 6″ square ruler with the stripe selected. Be aware of the colors of the triangle shapes created by cutting the stripes at the two other corners. These will help you line up the ruler the same every time. 3. Cut 35 total 6″ squares exactly the same (aligning the same stripe with the 45-degree line). 4. Trim silk noil backing to 38″ × 49″. Silk has fibers like little thorns that want to grab onto everything from other fabrics to chapped fingers.
